Situated in Nakhon Si Thammarak and Surat Thani provinces, Moo Kho Thalay Tai National Park is a new park in Thailand in which the mountains meet the sea and also property of the rare Pink Dolphin or Indo-Chinese Humpback Dolphin (Sousa Chinensis).

My First Time to see a Pink Dolphin at  Had Khanom Moo Kho Thalay Tai National Park

The Pink Dolphin is a stunningly lovely and friendly mammal and it is estimated the dolphin population is less than 150 in Thailand and they are normally located in the Gulf of Thailand in Nakhon Si Thammarat and Chanthaburi province. Humpback dolphins don’t migrate from place to place. They stick to a particular habitat so it quite simple to spot them if you are lucky:-) The humpback dolphin, or pink dolphin, is listed as a species facing extinction in appendix I of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).

Dolphin watching in Had Khanom-Moo Kho Thalay National Park can be a rewarding encounter. For me,  it was a great feeling to be ready to observe wild dolphins in their all-natural atmosphere.

Pink Dolphins typically forage for food about fishing boats (Khanom, Nakhon Si Thammarak)

Greatest time to watch Khanom dolphins:
Morning (8am -10 am)

You want a telephoto zoom lens (80-200.mm) to photograph the pink dolphin.

Getting There:
Khanom is a modest fishing village located at the mainland opposite Koh Samui – 80 km north of Nakhon Si Thammarat and 70 km south of Surat Thani around 2 hours drive from Surat Thani Airport. You might employ a fishing boat for 1500 THB for 2 hours.
